We enjoyed thinking about Ramadan and have now launched our Ramadan 2019 Appeal. Donated items of tinned food will go to One Nation and Dewsbury Homeless Project.
Children in Year 2 enjoyed a Cricket taster session this afternoon delivered by the All Stars Cricket Center. They were able to learn skills like, throwing, catching, hitting a moving ball and team work.

Children in Year 2 enjoyed a lovely visit to Tropical World where they looked at different habitats linked to our Science Topic.
We enjoyed listening to Karen Bennet as she taught us how to keep safe at the Railway Station. We discussed how we can use the trains to travel but it’s important to be aware of the dangers too.
Thank you to all our parents who attended our bespoke Reading Workshop, we enjoyed discussing all the strategies we use to support your child’s reading skills.

Year 2 had an amazing Science afternoon. We investigated different food groups and how they contribute to our healthy balanced diet.
Year 2 had the pleasure of a visit from our very own author Perter Irwin. They listened enthusiastically as Peter told them a fable as part of our International Story Telling Week.

Children in Year 2 have been learning how to divide by grouping objects. We have been using Mathematical resources to consolidate learning.

Year 2 enjoyed using the ipads to research information about Florence Nightingale.
Carlton celebrated World Religion Day this week. Each class showcased their work on a specific Religion. Our message was about global unity.
Year 2 enjoyed their circle time with Mrs Motley. The children discussed an alternative curriculum and what other lessons children desire to be taught. We had some great ideas.
Children related equal groups to repeated addition. They were able to add three one digit numbers together and link this learning to groups.
The children enjoyed making equal groups and counting the amounts in each groups. They were able to identify which groups were equal and unequal and familiarised themselves with the word ‘equal’ and ‘unequal’.

We visited Barnfield to wish them Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We discussed how important it is to look after our elderly friends and ensure a positive community spirit.

We had a special visitor from the past, Sir William Petty who taught us all about how the Great Fire of London started and what impact it had on London.
Children in Year 2 visited Dewsbury Minister as part of their R.E unit of work on Christianity. We participated in a workshop which taught us about how the church plays an important role in Christianity
The Great Fire of London
The children in Year Two were very proud to showcase their work to their parents in their showcase assembly.We made models, wrote poems, wrote diary entries, created our very own pictures of London burning down in the fire using chalk and learnt songs based on the Great Fire of London. The children produced fantastic work and have enjoyed learning about the Great Fire of London and the impact of it and how it made history.

In English this week we have been writing non-chronological reports all about animals. We planned, drafted and redrafted the reports.
The children have worked very hard and produced some fantastic work.
This week we are really proud of our Year 2 children who have worked really hard identifying the value of money and then adding the total.They have also been investigating different ways of making a given total.
If you would like to support your child ask them to give you different amounts of coins or to show you a different way of making a total value.

Children have the opportunity to earn rewards to access the shop using real money.
