Welcome to Year 6!
Mrs Mir, Miss Zahid & Mrs Audsley look forward to working with all the children in Year 6 this year.
SATs are officially over! We are so proud of all the children in Year 6 for all their hard work and dedication. Here are some of the photos from SATs breakfast mornings
Year 6 spent the afternoon reading stories in different languages. They embraced each others cultures and languages and made all the parents proud.
For Reading Month, we walked to the park as a whole school and read with the Early Years children.
A brilliant visit to Oxford to inspire our children to reach beyond excellence!
We have been exploring volume by creating shapes using multi-link cubes.
Year 6 were very excited to celebrate World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite characters!
We enjoyed our Mental Health workshop with Dee from Motivatemetees
We are extremely proud of our Year 6 children for planning and delivering a science lesson on how the heart functions.
Year 6 used the Ukulele to share the name of an individual who bought change to the world.
One of our pupils then taught the class about Martin Luther King and the children enjoyed her informative, fun lesson. Independently they will create poems, artwork and further research in their own time to consolidate their understanding of this amazing leader.
Two children from Year 6 planned and delivered a revision session and an assessment quiz for the Mayan topic. They did all the planning outside of school and the class thoroughly enjoyed the session! Future leaders in the making.
Year 6 had the most amazing and magical adventure at the Warner Brothers Studio in London, after reading and watching Harry Potter in class.
Children enjoyed their first session of Music with Junior Jam. They thought of a range of vocabulary linked to one concept and had to create a melody using a Xylophone. They revised their knowledge on Xylophones- it is a musical instrument in the percussion family and it consists of tuned keys.
Year 6 enjoyed their Olympian Mini Gym introduction through North Kirklees School Sport Partnership.
We completed a number of activities for anti-bullying week. Some of the children took lead on delivering an anti-bullying session, we worked together to create our poem ‘One Kind Word’ and we discussed what bullying meant and the impact of anti-bullying week. Each member of Year 6 had to choose one kind word as this was the theme this year. One kind word can make an immense difference.
We enjoyed celebrating and raising awareness for Children in Need!
Children have been consolidating the four functions in Maths. They worked on their addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills and used the CPA approach to secure their understanding.
Year 6 have found the Read to Write journey in their English lessons interesting, challenging and innovative. In the immersive phase the children explore the text type, determine the purpose and audience and go through the example text. They then move on to the anyalse phase, the plan phase and finish with the write phase. Through their journey, children gather ideas, magpie vocabulary, develop initial ideas and refine and edit their writing.
Year 6 have been studying Adonna Khare in their Art lessons. She is a pencil artist and the children analysed her pieces of work and discussed what they liked about it and what they noticed as her key style.
Children read the Diwali story and then shared their understanding through a story map. The children enjoyed this and they understood the importance of Diwali. Children learnt that the significance of Diwali was about light over darkness, patience over haste and good over evil. Some children also took part in a Punjabi dance in the Diwali showcase assembly.
Children collected work from Black History Month from each year group. Year 6 children then set up a Museum and displayed artwork and writing and confidently shared this with parents. They provided refreshments and guided parents through the museum, sharing their knowledge. It was an informative yet enjoyable event.
Children attended the Harvest assembly and then used their independent research skills to gain more knowledge about Harvest. They enjoyed this and as a result decided to use their class collection to buy more tins, rice and pasta to donate to the harvest collection. They also wrote a class poem.
Year 6 have been writing speeches about bravery and they held an awards celebration event so they could perform this. They worked on their speaking and listening skills and enjoyed themselves.
We produced a fantastic poem for National Poetry day that coincides with Black History Month
